According to the Pew Research Center, the number of unauthorized immigrants in the US is estimated at 11.1 million. One of the burning questions regarding Trump’s stated aims - will he be able to carry out some of his more mean-spirited promises, including those on undocumented immigrants? The Obama administration increased deportations - at the same time, offered an olive branch - the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. It allows some undocumented immigrants in the US who entered the country as minors to receive renewable two-year period permissions to stay. 750,000 have this status. They call themselves ‘Dreamers’ - they might still see their parents deported, but they at least had a hope of personally staying where they had grown up and established themselves - in the USA. But Donald Trump’s rhetoric, if made into policy, may rapidly turn their dreams into nightmares.
